アルゼンチンの写真家マルセラ・マグノのPhotobook「LAND [ 1 ] – oil」作品を展示します。 

写しだされているのは石油精製場を撮影した衛星写真で、10枚の写真はイラク、クェート、サウジアラビアなどの国。選択の基準は石油の採掘量。今回の展示空間には世界を動かしているオイルマネーが生まれているトップ10の場所が並びます。

作者は「アルゼンチンのパタゴニア南部に住む私にとって、見える風景は杉本博司の海景のような水平線だけで、そこには何も撮る景色はなかった。でも、ある日、Google Earthを眺めていて知ったの。地上から見える風景は、水平線のみでも、空から見ればそこには景色があるって。」と言い、彼女の興味を引いたのは、石油、リチウム、金、など、世界を動かしている資源の採掘場の衛星写真でした。 

また、世界中にあるこれらの場所はどれも同じような構造をしていて、異なる国の人が作ったものでも似たような風景が世界中で生み出されていることに関心を持ち、大地を刻むライン、構造物、その美的構成に心を惹かれた類型（タイポロジー）を浮かび上がらせています。

この世界を動かすほどの強大な富を生み出すこの場所、この土地に刻まれた歴史は果たしてどんなものなのか？この場所が与えている世界の環境への影響は？そこで働く人たちの労働環境は？この場所を巡ってかつてどんな争いが起こったのか？私たちが日々使用するものの中に、この場所から届いたものがどの程度溢れているのか？ここに記録された化石燃料の採掘場を未来の人が見たとき、それをどんな風に思うのだろうか？というような、これらのイメージから連想されるランダムな事について、Traces of thoughts（思考の足跡）を体感できる空間として展示いたします。

Land [1] oil, is the first volume of a series that make up a contemporary atlas integrated by global satellite images of areas of extraction of natural resources and energy use.

The book is a box containing 9 folded sheets of 1m by 0.70m printed front and back, an index and an instruction manual. The fronts contain 9 maps of the most important areas of oil extraction in the world and the backs, a single map to assemble and build with a 9 pages a big work from Eagle Ford, Texas. The pages propose to the reader to create a large map to hang on the wall. I was working on it for approximately two years thanks to patronage of the government of Buenos Aires.

This book completes the concept of my work. Land is a photographic project which aims to show contemporary cartography, revealing the historical evolution of the landscape, the political division of territory and the geopolitical development. The images that made up the project were put together with maps taken from google earth which were printed in large scale and high definition. They are satellite maps that reveal the topography of extraction fields and development of natural resources. I am interested in seeing how utopias of modernity convert into a dystopian outcome. These maps seem to confront us with this otherness: social and economic distortion, environmental disaster, misplaced territorial boundaries and the uncertain future of our world.
